For a livelier atmosphere, there’s the popular mountain resort town of Platres, which is truly a refreshing retreat. Pedhoulas in the southern region is equally popular with tourists, whilst the western region of Troodos gains access to the world renowned Kykkos Monastery. Built in the 12th century, it has been completely renovated and contains a museum of religious icons.
Each village within the Troodos Mountains is the essence of a special crop, craft or product and the microclimate provides the perfect environment for vineyards, which are an integral part of the island’s agriculture, and the essence for winemaking.
